Mystic Rhythms ~ 'Let's Play Charades'

Poetry Of Sorts
~ Let's Play Charades ~
 LISTEN  TO  THE  POEM (SOON)

Let's Play Charades

We're waiting
Watching you walk by
Talking of tarts
And toilet cleaner
On our minds
Is something leaner
Something that will
Last a good while
Longer than your
Sunday dinner
Stylish lady
Woeful sinner
Let us get
Our claws on you
Scrape around
Inside your innards
Strip you down
A good deal thinner

Make that smile
A little meaner
Make that grin
A little bigger
Our kind thrives
On misdemeaner
Patience is our
Stock in trade
We'll barter parts
To pass the time
And play charades
And wager lives
And snigger
As we watch you
Walking by

Mystic Rhythms ~ 'The Ones That Don't Get On'

Poetry Of Sorts
~ The Ones That Don't Get On ~

The ones that don't get on
Know the rats, salute the silver worms
That whip and whine their way
Around the sewers of the city

The ones that don't get on
Watch the faces through the windows
From the outside though they're inside
Sitting out not sitting pretty

They remember days like these
Sweaty sardines in the subway
Tripping on the tramps all shitty
Glad they don't get on

Mystic Rhythms ~ 'Happiest Days'

Poetry Of Sorts
~ Happiest Days ~

When I was a child
The metalwork teacher
Would help me to do up
My tie properly..
He'd make it so tight
That my eyes would pop right out
We wet ourselves laughing
When he tempered our backsides
With calloused vice hands
Or the wire brush

When I was a child
The arts and crafts teacher
Would help me to see
Things differently..
A whack round the head
Was quite easily read
Not 'that' differently
We wet ourselves laughing
As the litter bin welcomed
My moronic mush

When I was a child
The chemistry teacher
Explained strange reactions
As cause and effect..
Poor work would provoke
A grown man to choke
Late homework would turn
The board rubber ballistic
As we wet ourselves waiting
For a cheeky chalk rush

But when I was a child
The poetry teacher
Would conjure up worlds
In a whimsical voice
Our seasickly verse
Made her giggle and purse
She would spin us tall stories
And we wet ourselves laughing
Or she whispered of passion
And made schoolboys blush

Mystic Rhythms ~ 'This Son's Tears'

Poetry Of Sorts
~ This Sun's Tears ~

The laden brush
This paint
Splashes sparkling
Like the sun's tears

This son fears
No splash at all
No faint return
Just swallowing

The walls of Paris
Witness all
My chromic states
And wallowing

In years to come
Will echoes
Of my steps fill
My son's ears

Mystic Rhythms ~ 'Penny Pusher'

Poetry Of Sorts
~ Penny Pusher ~

Yoan makes hearts out of centimes
Carving copper curves
With a kindness that unnerves

'Come back later
It'll be beautiful', he's a perfectionist
I nod, dutiful

He isn't wrong
Precisionist, precisely placed
Each metal disc

An echo
Of his calloused wrist
I promise him

A photo
For two years he's been
He tells me

Making metal hearts
On boulevard Montparnasse
Under the tree
Next to the creperie
Far from

His Romania
His patria, his homeland
Hoping for a helping hand

What would he do
With a photo?

Poetry ~ 'Don't Close Your Eyes'

Share Us!

Mystic Rhythms
~ Don't Close Your Eyes ~
LISTEN TO THE POEM

I am a tattered rag in a Calcutta slum
I am a battered hag from Hull and then some

I am a feather on the duck who steals my chips
I'm the leaf that falls on my leg as I lick my lips

I'm the kid in pink who's thinking of jumping in
I'm the picnicking parent in panic with sauce on his chin

I am the windblown remains of yesterday's news
I'm the sighs of the lover who doesn't know which path to choose

I'm the world that I witness, without me the universe dies
I'm so scared to turn over, to lie down, to close my eyes

(I'm not really, it's only a poem, silly!)

Mystic Rhythms
~ Seasons of My Discontent ~

Hey buddy, where's the spring in your step these days?
The birds on the branch are singing, your eyes are glazed

Hey man, pick up your heart and change your ways
While some are burning bright you're feeling phased

Two zeros make a nought an' me I'm tired
Of watching falling leaves dull our desires

Hey cool guy, win to play and let's get fired
We'll melt the snows of sadness like livewires

My Reality ~ 'My Ideal Job'

Share Us!

Mystic Rhythms ~ My Reality

~ My Ideal Job ~

I'd like to be a lock keeper
That's the job for me
He push the button
Lock opens
Boat's pass
Endless farce
People smile
And wave a while
That's the job for me

I'd like to be a train driver
That's the job for me
He pull the lever
Train shudders
Platforms pass
Pointless farce
Faces blur
And all concur
That's the job for me

I'd like to be a grave digger
That's the job for me
He dig the dirt
And don't get hurt
Caskets pass
Timeless farce
Bodies fade
To simple shade
Now that's the job for me

When'd I become a dream weaver
Why that's the job for me
I taps the keys
Words appear
Thoughts pass
Seamless farce
Phantoms seem
To weakly gleam
Yes that's the job for me

My Reality ~ 'The Riven Tree'

Share Us!

Mystic Rhythms ~ My Reality

~ The Riven Tree ~

There's a structure in Seville
Called the riven tree
That's not really its name
But it pleases me

It's got roots like the mountains
The trunk's split in three
Like three possible paths
Or three choices to be

One the route that was laid out
And some of us took

One the rebel within us
Which jumped off the hook

And one path we'll not know
Because life's full of choices

The riven tree's mouthing
With three silent voices

It's there to be heard
If you just take a look

'Twixt the orange grove vistas
And sly seƱoritas
Cat walk fashionistas
Who sneer at my book

As I squint at the trunk
Spread-eagled in the breeze
And consider the myth
Of the riven trees

(original photo is NOT, to my regret, by me - but I played with it...)

My Reality ~ 'Mindsuck'

Mystic Rhythms ~ My Reality

~ Mindsuck ~

Assuming you've still got a brain
I'll try to beguile you again
Claiming this is a word
And yet this is absurd
Just to drive you so gently insane

Because English you see is a bitch
And the English you don't see a glitch
To your deep understanding
Your good knowledge branding
Your language ends up in the ditch

Which is one of the wonders of English
We can sieve our sick thoughts through a wingwish
We can make up new words
Even rhyme things with turds
And turn turds and brains into a fine dish

My Reality ~ '20-10 Vision'

Share Us!

Mystic Rhythms ~ My Reality

~ 20-10 Vision ~

In 10 years from today
I'll be 54 or more
Won't have been that old before
Won't have seen my hair so grey

With my 20-20 vision
Fading gently with the years
Will my eyes be blurred by tears
Or glinting still in self-derision

10 and 20 year-old kids
Will bear witness to times of folly
Squints at mistletoe and holly
Through half-century eyelids

From the year of 20-10
The future's past yet makes me smile
As I muse alone awhile
And throw some thoughts at life again

Mystic Rhythms ~ My Reality

~ The Thin Man ~

The thin man is pining
He's misplaced his shadow
He got home at lunchtime
And there he was, gone

He checked in the kitchen and found crumbs
He opened the office, just saw sums
He peeked in the bathroom, saw puddles
He glanced in the garage, more muddles

He brushed by the bedroom, saw creased sheets
He looked in the living room, echoes of heartbeats
He opened the attic, caught clouds of cold skin
He rummages closets, old ghosts closing in

He heads down the hallway, one purpose, one aim
To find his amigo, his soul-mate, his same

Now under the willow
The thin man is smiling
He's spotted his shadow
And slips him on
